Most business owners find it difficult to reduce their business energy consumption. Most businesses require machines that have to run the whole day and use a lot of power. Business owners cannot compromise on the working of these machines to reduce their electricity consumption. Businesses have to run these machines no matter how much electricity these machines consume. Also there are many retail stores where customers can walk in at any time. They have to keep their air-conditioning system turned on throughout the day - even when customers are not in the shop.

Homeowners find it easier to reduce their consumption of energy. You can turn off of the lights or limit the use of the computer or television to reduce the consumption of electricity. Some people also reduce the use of their air-conditioners to reduce their electricity consumption. However, you cannot reduce your business energy consumption. You cannot stop the use of computers in your office to reduce the consumption of electricity. Also retail stores cannot reduce the use of air-conditioners in their office as it could make their customers feel uncomfortable.

There are many ways that business owners can reduce their business energy usage, without affecting their business. Here are a few tips that can help you conserve energy:

a) Business owners can use energy saving bulbs instead of ordinary bulbs. CFL bulbs consume 80 per cent less energy when compared to ordinary bulbs. So it is in the interest of business owners to use only CLF bulbs in their office.

b) If you have machines or equipment in your office, make sure they are turned off. Make sure you appoint a responsible person to check the whole office before closing for the day. Leaving your equipment on without using it is a waste of precious energy. Many people use occupancy sensors that will ensure all lights and electric equipment are turned off when the shop or office is closed.

c) If you are using water heating equipment in your office make sure you set the temperature at 60 degree Celsius. If you set the water heater at high temperatures you will only be wasting energy that can be used somewhere else.
d) If you are using a radiator, then make sure it is installed at the right location. Make sure these radiators are not placed behind any object that is blocking the flow of air. When an object blocks the flow of air, the heater will require more energy to heat the place, which will increase your energy cost.

e) Some business owners place their thermostat regulator in an area that receives excess sunlight. This will increase your electricity consumption as the air-conditioning unit will make extra effort to cool the required area.

f) To reduce your electricity consumption you must choose electric-powered tools over air driven tools. Air driven machines consume 10 times more energy than electric power tools.

g) Make sure you close the doors of the freezer before you leave. If the doors of the freezer are open for a long time, it will consume more energy to keep the system cool. Avoid frequent defrosting the freezer as it resets the temperature of the freezer and will require more energy to cool again.
